Congenital Heart Surgeon University of Virginia Department of Surgery in collaboration with Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters (CHKD) Location: Norfolk, Virginia
The University of Virginia Department of Surgery, in collaboration with Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters (CHKD), seeks a board-certified Congenital Heart Surgeon with a minimum of two years of post-training experience to join a growing pediatric cardiac surgery program. This position will be based at CHKD in Norfolk, Virginia, supporting a well-established and continuously expanding congenital cardiac surgery program through an ongoing partnership with the University of Virginia.
The collaborative program is nationally recognized and ranked by U.S. News & World Report, performing more than 400 congenital cardiac surgeries annually. The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to pediatric cardiac patients.
Qualifications
MD or equivalent medical degree
Board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery AND Board certification in Congenital Cardiac Surgery
Minimum of two years of clinical experience in congenital heart surgery
Demonstrated experience with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
Eligibility for medical licensure in Virginia
Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive clinical care for pediatric cardiac surgical patients, including neonatal, infant, and pediatric populations
Participate in the full spectrum of congenital cardiac surgical care, including ECMO management
Collaborate closely with cardiologists, intensivists, cardiac anesthesiologists, and multidisciplinary care teams
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and program development
Support the continued growth and excellence of the collaborative pediatric cardiac surgery program
About Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters (CHKD) Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters is Virginias only full-service, independent, freestanding childrens hospital and the heart of a comprehensive pediatric health system with more than 40 locations throughout coastal Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. CHKD provides care in over 30 pediatric subspecialties and offers access to advanced pediatric surgical services.
Surgeons perform more than 13,000 procedures annually across CHKDs pediatric surgical facilities. The hospital includes a 32-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a 70-bed Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), supported by an experienced neonatal and pediatric critical care transport service.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of Accredited medical school with degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). Completion of Accredited Residency in chosen specialty,

Board certification in specialty (if newly graduated from residency, must be obtained within 2 years of graduation) must be kept current, Unrestricted license to practice within the Commonwealth of Virginia, Current DEA certificate without restriction
Skills:
Experience utilizing a personal computer and computerized scheduling.
